Meet the people
behind PayByPhone:
Mike Estey &
Mary Catherine Synder

Mike, Mary Catherine, and the team at the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) have been working successfully with PayByPhone since 2013.

“PayByPhone is a company that is well-poised for the future. The product as it works now is great, but PayByPhone has clearly
made some investments in what
the future holds for mobile payment.”

In 2017, with a 12% adoption of mobile payment, Mike and Mary Catherine took on several progressive initiatives to increase the usage

of PayByPhone in their city. This included the forward-thinking decision to absorb the PayByPhone transaction fee and a collective, year-long, marketing effort with PayByPhone
for the Seasons of Seattle campaign, which included enhanced digital and social tools
and hyper-local influencer endorsements.

In the first 3 months of the Seasons of Seattle campaign, average transaction volumes increased by 20%. By the end of the year, average transactions increased by more than 50%, compared to the previous 12 months. The combined efforts of both SDOT and PayByPhone resulted in the city winning the Best of 2018 Marketing Award presented by the International Parking and Mobility Institute (IPMI).

The following year, PayByPhone continued its marketing program with the city and worked with SDOT to launch the Soak in Seattle campaign, which included community

outreach and an ongoing incentive campaign.
Through this campaign, SDOT saw a 65% increase in new users and a 47% increase
in PayByPhone during the 3 month campaign period, and was subsequently awarded
the IPMI 2019 Marketing Award.

By the end of 2019, SDOT officially achieved an adoption rate of 50% of mobile payments, a 38% increase in less than 3 years, and it continues to grow thanks to the combined efforts of both SDOT and PayByPhone.
